It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Steven Douglas Sheppard, age 56, of Hamilton, Ontario, after a courageous and steadfast battle with cancer. Steve passed away peacefully on November 5, 2024, surrounded by the love of his family and dear friends.
Born on August 30, 1968, in Hamilton, Steve was a devoted husband, father, and brother. He is lovingly remembered by his wife and best friend, Louisa, who was also his soulmate, and his son, Anthony. Steve is also survived by his stepchildren, Patrick and Simona, his mother, Paulette Fairman (John), and his father, the late Bob Sheppard. He will be deeply missed by his brothers, Jamie Walker (Tracy Lynn) and Josh Walker (Andrea), and his sister, Kim Barlow (Dave), as well as their father, Norm Walker. He was predeceased by his brothers, Jason Sheppard and Jeremy Sheppard. Steve was a cherished uncle to many nieces and nephews and a loving brother-in-law to Veronica and Coral. He will also be dearly missed by his best friend and chosen brother, Brian, and Brian’s wife, Kelly, who were like family to him. In addition to his family, Steve will be greatly missed by many of his dear and closest friends, who were an important part of his life. He leaves behind numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins.
Steve was proud of his work as a Parks Supervisor with the City of Hamilton, where he was known for his strong work ethic and dedication. Outside of work, Steve had a passion for sports, particularly golf and hockey. He was a lover of music and enjoyed spending time with his family and friends, always making those around him laugh and feel welcome.
Steve was always willing to give sound advice to those he cared for, offering wisdom and insight that was often just what others needed. He was a great listener, and his genuine desire to help people was evident in everything he did. Whether offering a word of encouragement or practical guidance, Steve was a rock for those who sought his counsel, and his selflessness in helping others made a lasting impact on everyone who knew him.
Throughout his battle with cancer, Steve remained unwavering in his positivity, always choosing to face each day with hope and strength. His courage and resilience were an inspiration to all who knew him. Steve’s charismatic personality, loyalty, and fun-loving nature made him the life of every gathering. He had a unique ability to bring joy to everyone around him, leaving a lasting impression on all who met him.
The family would like to extend special thanks to the amazing, caring, and compassionate staff at Bob Kemp Hospice in Hamilton. Their dedication ensured that Steve’s last days were comfortable and peaceful. The support and love provided to Steve and to his wife, Louisa, who constantly remained by his side, was greatly appreciated.
A special thank you also goes to all family and friends for their immense help, love, and support throughout this difficult time. Your kindness and compassion have meant the world to us.
Steve was a man of integrity, kindness, and generosity, and he will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
Family and friends are invited to celebrate Steve’s life during the visitation at Bay Gardens Funeral Home, 947 Rymal Road East, Hamilton, on Sunday, November 10, 2024, from 1:00 PM to 4:00 PM and 5:00 PM to 9:00 PM. A funeral service will be held on Monday, November 11, 2024, at 1:00 PM in the Bay Gardens Funeral Home Chapel. Cremation to follow.
A celebration of Steve’s life will be announced at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to honor Steve’s memory be made to the Bob Kemp Hospice, which can be done online at www.kempcarenetwork.org/donate.
Steve’s memory will live on in the hearts of those who loved him. He will forever be missed.
