Roach, Ruth Phylis (nee Reavely)
September 19, 1937 – November 3, 2024
It is with heavy hearts the family of Ruth announces her passing, after a short bout with breast cancer at the Juravinski Hospital on Sunday, November 3, 2024. Ruth was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother. She leaves behind her husband of 68 + years Gerald “Gerry”, daughter Donna Morrow (Jim), son Gerald “Jerry” (Mark), grandchildren Melissa Brewer, Anthony Brewer, great grandchildren Robert, Zander, Skylar, Lillianna and Julianna.
Ruth and Gerry began dating in June 1953 at ages 15 and 16. They married in May 1956 and Ruth became and army wife for the next 25 years from 1956 until 1981, moving every few years as Gerry was transferred from posting to posting and having to raise the children alone whenever he was away. Friends were made in several provinces we lived in and some of which we have still kept in touch with after returning to Hamilton in 1981. Ruth was a great cook and enjoyed large gatherings for special occasions, her Belgium cookies were always in demand at Christmas time.
Predeceased by her parents William and Lillian Reavely (nee Davis), and brothers Donald and Robert. She leaves behind to mourn her are brothers William (Dona), John (Linda) and Harold (the late Gwen). The family would like to extend it’s heartfelt gratitude to all the nurses and student nurses of F3 for their compassionate care of Ruth during her two week stay.
Family and friends will be received at P.X. DERMODY FUNERAL HOME, 796 Upper Gage Ave. (between Mohawk and Fennell) on Thursday November 7th from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Funeral Service will be held in the Funeral Home Chapel on Friday November 8th at 11 a.m. Entombment to follow at Resurrection Cemetery, 254 Garner Rd., Ancaster.
