Jean Monson (nee Mooney) passed away peacefully on September 6, 2024 at the age of 88 in
Hamilton, Ontario. Born in Cape Town, South Africa, Jean was the oldest of 15 children. She was predeceased by her parents, James and Irene Mooney and loving husband Leonard (2008). Beloved mother of Phillip, Derek (Robin), James (Roseanne), Ian (Ann) and Leonard (Pamela). Cherished grandmother of Derek (Andie), Brent (Rebecca), Mike (Kara), Rachel (George), Julia, Daniel, Lisa, Lara and Brooke-Lynne. Proud great-grandmother to Lyla, Mack and Zoë. Jean worked at MUMC for 25 plus years as an administrative assistant. Her love for her family was boundless. She would light up a room with her smile. Jean will be missed by many. She left a lasting impression on all who had the grace of meeting her. Her memory will carry on through the family she lived and breathed for. A special thanks to Dr. Potter and the staff at Extendicare for their care and compassion. Visitation will be held at P.X. DERMODY FUNERAL HOME, 796 Upper Gage Ave. (Between Mohawk and Fennell) on Tuesday, September 10 from 2:00 to 4:00 and 6:00 to 9:00 p.m. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Catherine of Siena Roman Catholic Church, 620 Rymal Road East, Hamilton on Wednesday, September 11 at 11:00 a.m. Interment to follow at Resurrection Cemetery, Ancaster.
