Bourque, Gertrude (nee Moulaison)
On April 28, 2024, Gert was called to her heavenly home where she will be reunited with her husband Désiré. She was a woman of strength, and great faith who faced life’s obstacles with grace and dignity. It was her strength and faith in God and Mother Mary, that carried her through both joyous and difficult times. Gert was proud of the home she and Désiré built and lovingly raised their family in. She showered her family with homemade cooking and meals. Gert was famous for her apple pie with old cheddar cheese, oatmeal cookies, date squares, spaghetti sauce, and the tower of baking that would adorn the kitchen table at Christmas and well into June. She was the loving and much-loved mother of Doug (Marika), Bob (Susan), Doreen Karpuk (Brian), and Ron (Patricia). She took great joy in spending time with her grandchildren; Christopher, Andrew (Kate), Neil (Maureen), Michael, Paul, Mark, Adam, Laura, Karli (Shak), Nicole (John) and great grandson Noah. Sleepovers with Grandmère were always a treat with stories, movies, “munchies”, a game of Mille Bornes and sometimes a trip downtown on the city bus or mini putt at Confederation Park. She is survived by her brother Paul and predeceased by her siblings; Ted, Genevieve, Evangeline, Lou, Cam, Vince, and Marjorie. She will be thought of with loving and cherished memories by many nieces and nephews, family and friends in Ontario and Nova Scotia. Gert and Désiré were founding members of St. Eugene’s Parish and Gert was a long-time member of the C.W.L. She enjoyed watching baseball and was a die-hard Blue Jays fan, no Yankee fans allowed. A special thanks to the P.S.W.s and companions who cared for, and made it possible for Mom to live independently, in her home for so long. An additional thank you to the staff and volunteers at Margaret’s Place for being such tender and loving caregivers. Visitation will be held at P.X. DERMODY FUNERAL HOME, 1919 King St. E. (Between Rosedale and Cochrane) on Sunday May 5, 2024, from 5-8 p.m. Vigil prayers will be said at 7:30 p.m. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Eugene’s Catholic Church, 232 Queenston Rd. on Monday May 6, 2024, at 11 a.m. Cremation to follow. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Margaret’s Place Hospice.
