Fred Field
June 13th 2024
In loving memory of Frederick George Field of Englehart who passed away on Thursday, June 13th at the age of 74, at Health Sciences North in Sudbury. Beloved husband of Linda (nee Zaverucha), loving father of David (Lyndsay) and Michael and loving grandfather of his precious grandson Wyatt.
Fred also leaves his sister Pat Quast, his brothers and sisters-in-law, Walter and Pat Zaverucha and Jean Overell and Brian Andrews, his nieces and nephews, Jeff, Kirk, Greg, Rachel, Andrew, Marcedes and Rudy. Fred will also be missed by his great nephews Ethan, Owen and Gordon and many cousins.
Fred was predeceased by his parents, George and Edith Field, in-laws Anna and John Zaverucha and brother-in-law Stan Quast.
Fred was born in Haileybury and over the years lived in several places in Northern Ontario including Elk Lake, Haileybury, Temagami, and Brownrigg as his Father worked for the Ontario Northland Railway.
Following in his father’s footsteps Fred worked for the Ontario Northland Railway for 27 years. It was on his posting to Cochrane that he met Linda and they would have celebrated their 52nd wedding anniversary in September.
Fred faced many challenges over the past years but with some adaptions and ingenuity on his part Fred was able to do many of the things he loved with the help of his family and always maintained a positive outlook on life. He always seemed to be able to find a way to make something work. He had a keen sense of humour and was able to make light of most situations.
The place most special to him was the family camp in the Temagami area where he and Linda and their family would enjoy many wonderful trips over the years. A priority of Fred’s was to keep the camp in top shape but he always tried to save some time for an evening fish. He treasured the times spent with his boys David and Michael in the outdoors fishing and hunting. He especially enjoyed spending time with his grandson Wyatt, who loved going for rides on the Argo, always saying “Grandpa can you go a little faster.”
Fred’s many hobbies included fishing, hunting, canoeing, and he was an expert at fly tying, wood burning, carving, and woodworking. With determination and attention to detail he would complete many projects, often as gifts for family and friends. He enjoyed creating items that were both decorative and practical.
Fred will be missed immensely by all his family and friends.
A Celebration of Life will be held at the Royal Canadian Legion in Englehart with the service beginning at 2pm on June 28th, 2024. All are welcome to attend. If desired a donation to the Englehart and Area Food Bank would be appreciated.
