Peacefully on Wednesday, April 3, 2024 at the Temiskaming District Hospital, Dale Joel Schultz passed away at the age of 58. Dear brother of Allen (Karen) Schultz and Marilyn (Brad) Dolton. Loving uncle of Gavin, Sarah, Sean, and Brooke. Stepson of Janet Jordan. He was predeceased by his father, Melvin Schultz in 2021 and his mother, Sarah Schultz (nee Hebert) in 1999.
Dale was born in Winnipeg, Manitoba on March 23, 1966. He lived in numerous locations in Western Canada as a young child, but Saskatoon became his permanent home where he studied at City Park Collegiate High School. During high school, he worked part-time at the Saskatoon Auction Mart and spent many weekends playing Dungeon & Dragons with his friends from school.
After high school, Dale attended the University of Saskatchewan and received a Bachelor of Science (1989) and Master of Science (1995) in Geological and Earth Sciences. During university, he was very active with the Ore Gangue student society where he made many long-term friendships.
Dale had over 30 years of exploration and mining experience in many different locations in the world. He provided geological consulting services in North America, South and Central America, and Asia. He was the Principal Geologist with DJS Consulting.
Dale was Vice President of Resource Development at Snow Lake Lithium since October, 2021 and was a member of the board since May 2018. He served as the COO and Secretary from December 2019 to October 2021.
In 2019, Dale also managed the exploration program on the Estelle project in Alaska for Nova Minerals Limited. From 2018 through 2019, he completed field mapping and sampling of the Temagami green stone belt for Temagami BLUE Inc. and Progenitor Metals Corp. Between 2017 and 2018, Dale managed a 4000m diamond drill campaign on the lithium property for Nova Minerals Limited. From 2016 to 2017, while working for Cobalt Power, he logged core in the Northern Ontario Cobalt Mining Camp.
He has also been the Qualified Person for numerous South and Central America projects including Solex Resources’ Pilunani and Macusani projects in Peru, Channel Resources’ El Mozo project in Central Ecuador, Aurelians’ Bonza-Penus resource campaign on the Condor Project in Central Ecuador, Majescors’ Douvray porphyry copper-gold project in Haiti.
He previously worked at Echo Bay Lupin Mine in the summer of 1986 and 1987, Claude Resources Seabee Mine from March of 1992 to April 1995, Battle Mountain’s Hemlo Camp and Kori Kollo Mine from May of 1995 to April of 2000, and TVX New Britannia Mine, in Snow Lake, Manitoba, from December of 2002 to January 2004. Dale was a member of Professional Engineers and Geoscientist of both Saskatchewan and Manitoba.
Dale will be forever remembered by many extended family members and friends. He was a generous, kind, and gentle soul. He valued his friendships and always stayed in close contact with many friends over the years despite the distance. He was the gracious host when family and friends would visit him while he lived in Ecuador, Florida, Snow Lake, and Temagami.
He enjoyed various outdoor activities such as fishing, snowmobiling, riding ATV’s, and scuba diving. He also loved to cheer on his favourite Hockey team the Boston Bruins.
He had a passion for cooking and when visiting friends and family you would be treated to many delicious meals made by him. Dale’s nephews and nieces enjoyed the numerous visits he made when he came to visit family in Calgary. It was always a treat to have a home cooked meal by Uncle Dale.
The family would like to extend our thanks to his close friends in Temagami that helped him during his illness. You will be forever in our debt for helping Dale during this time.
Cremation has taken place at Lakeview Crematorium, Haileybury. Friends will be received at Buffam Leveille Funeral Home, New Liskeard Location, 251 Shepherdson Road, 705-647-4440 on Saturday June 1, 2024 beginning at 1:00 pm. The memorial service will start at 2:00 pm. A livestream of Dale’s Memorial Service will be available on the funeral home website www.buffamleveille.com.
Following the service, friends are invited to gather at the Temagami Legion Branch (11 Parkwood Ln, Temagami) for a reception from 4:00 pm – 6:00 pm. Interment will take place at Whispering Pines Cemetery, Temagami at a later date.
