It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Anne Plaunt (Goddard) in her ninety-eighth year. She was predeceased by her husband Bill, her sisters Sadie Staples (Alex)and Freda Bowers (Ron) and her brother George (Dorothy), and her two grandsons Brock and Devin Ryan. Left to mourn are her children Pat Cousineau (Albert), Bill (Katelyn), Mary Ryan (Urban), Rod (Linda), and Janet McDonald (Jack). She is also profoundly missed by her grandchildren Renee, Marc, Joel, Jaime, Jillian, Jesse, Tyler, Meghan, Cody, Kendra, Julia, Jem along with their spouses, many great-grandchildren and dear friend Joanne Farmer.
Anne was a wonderful combination of strength, gentleness and tranquility. She had a quiet faith who put her beliefs into action by donating much of her time doing good work in the background. She was a member of the Women’s Institute, United Church Women and the Eastern Star. She started her career as a teacher at Armstrong School #1 where she met the one and only love of her life. She is still remembered and talked about with fondness by the many new teachers she mentored and supported in the beginning of their careers in the late 50’s. She ultimately finished her career as a teacher librarian at Kerns Public School.
Her family will miss her gentle, calm presence, understated intellect, her love of literature and occasional request for help with a cryptic crossword clue (which none of us could provide). To the end she was always concerned that those around her were taken care of.
The family is grateful for and expresses its deepest thanks to the wonderful team on the second floor of the Kirkland Lake Extendicare home. They were incredibly professional, caring and unfailingly kind to Anne and the entire family.
A celebration of life will take place August 3rd, 2024, at 11:30 am at the United Church in Englehart, with a reception to follow in the church basement. In lieu of flowers a donation may be made to the Alzheimer’s Society or charity of your choice
