William Kenneth (Ken) Lippert of Kilworthy, Ontario, passed away on Sunday, December 17, 2023 at the age of 87.
Ken was born on his grandparents’ homestead in Dashwood, Ontario, May 18,1936 to parents Edward and Gladys Lippert. He was the eldest of four children including brothers Charles Lippert (deceased)(Maude) and Donald Lippert (Adeline), and sister Judy Hutchinson (Ron).
After a brief sojourn to western Canada as a teenager in the early 1950s, Ken followed his family to Kilworthy where he worked and eventually took over operation of the then famous family business, the Girls Truck Diner on Highway 11, south of Gravenhurst. It was also in Muskoka where he met the love of his life, Annie Veitch from Ufford. They were married November 6, 1954 at the United Church Manse (Bethune House) in Gravenhurst, Ontario, their marriage lasting an inspiring 69 years! From this happy union have come five children, 14 grandchildren, 30 great-grandchildren, and 3 great-great-grandchildren!
Multi talented and a dedicated worker, Ken held a number of jobs throughout his life including farmer, small engine mechanic, salesman, plant manager at Shakespeare Sporting Goods, truck driver, heavy equipment and snowplow operator, and a myriad of small jobs like game warden, Morrison Township Councillor, Captain of the local Volunteer Fire Department and caretaker of monkeys and black bears that were big tourist attractions at the Diner!
Ken was an avid fisherman, hunter and knowledgeable outdoorsman. He looked forward to the annual deer hunt at his hunt camp in Longford Township and spending time with family at his cottage on Bird Lake, Ontario. Always loud and boisterous, Ken enjoyed visiting with friends, playing a few hands of euchre or Mexican Train Dominoes and laughing and chatting with everyone whether good friends or complete strangers. He complained greatly when he had to miss his weekly get-together for coffee with his friends.
Most of all, Ken loved his grandchildren and they loved him. They flocked to him and screamed with delight as he teased, joked, and wrestled with them, all the while teaching them kindness, love and respect for everyone and everything. Rarely was there a day without a child bouncing on his lap or lying on the floor at his feet being tickled.
Ken is survived by his loving wife Annie Veitch with whom he built a long-lasting life filled with love. He will be sadly missed by his children Wayne Lippert (Carol), Deborah Brewer (Doug), Edward Lippert (Kathy), Douglas Lippert (Lori), Ronald Lippert (late Dawn), grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren and the many, many wonderful friends he has met over the years.
His family would like to give a special thank you to Doctor Jindal, nurse Melissa and all of the other nurses and staff of the ICU department of the Huntsville District Memorial Hospital who were especially kind and provided exceptional care in Dad’s final hours.
A service to celebrate Ken’s life will be held at Cavill-Turner Funeral Home in Gravenhurst on Saturday, December 23, at 11:00 am to be followed by a reception. Visitation time will be on Friday evening, December 22, from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm at the same location. If so desired, donations in Ken’s name can be made to the Huntsville Hospital Foundation MRI Fundraising Campaign. huntsvillehospitalfoundation.ca/mri/#Donate-Now
