Passed away on Sunday, March 17, 2024 at Muskoka Shores Care Community, Gravenhurst, ON. She was born in Finland, and her journey began on February 21, 1931.
Raili’s life was adorned with numerous proudest accomplishments that defined her legacy. She bravely immigrated from Finland to Canada in 1962, embarking on a new chapter filled with courage and determination. For many years, she delighted the taste buds of Toronto locals as the proud owner of a Finnish bakery. Raili’s community spirit shone bright as she dedicated over 30 years to the Finnish Lions Club, touching the lives of many along the way.
In the hearts of those who knew her best, Raili will forever be cherished. She is survived by her loving family and friends. Raili was the beloved wife of the late Karl Erik Sahlberg, who now awaits her in another realm. Her memory will live on through her devoted sons, Erik Sahlberg (Donna) and John Sahlberg; her adoring grandchildren Tia Retsinas and Sterling Vaughan; and her precious great-grandchildren Ava, Liam, and Adam.
In addition to her immediate family, Raili leaves behind her sisters Sirkka Saarinen (Toronto) and Eeva-Liisa Kinnunen (Finland), as well as her brother Veikko Vaisto (Finland).
Raili Pirkko Sahlberg’s legacy is one of love, strength, and unwavering resilience. Her kindness touched countless hearts, and her memory will forever be etched in the tapestry of those who had the privilege to know her. May she rest in peace knowing that she made a profound impact on all who had the honor of crossing paths with her.
Celebration of Life to be held at York Cemetery and Funeral Centre, 160 Beecroft Rd, North York, Ontario M2N 5Z5. Interment to follow celebration of life. April 6th, 2024 from 1 – 3 pm.
