Elizabeth Lujze Szakall, passed away on January 12, 2024, at Andy’s House Hospice Muskoka. She was in her 83rd year.
Elizabeth was preceded in death by her parents Geza and Elizabeth Bu as well as her beloved husband Sandor Szakall, who passed away in 2017. She leaves behind a multitude of nieces and nephews in Hungary, the United States, and Canada. Her memory will forever live on in their hearts as they remember the love and kindness she shared with each of them.
Born on March 3, 1939, in Abony, Hungary, Elizabeth immigrated to Canada in 1957, seeking new opportunities and a fresh start. Although she left her homeland behind, she always cherished her Hungarian roots and regularly traveled back to visit family and friends. These trips allowed her to reconnect with her loved ones and maintain strong bonds despite the distance.
Elizabeth had a fulfilling career working in the Food Service department at the Muskoka Centre in Gravenhurst until her retirement. She dedicated many years of her life to serving others and brought joy to those she interacted with through her warm and caring nature.
Elizabeth was a social butterfly who always made time for her friends and neighbours. Whether it was gathering for social events or simply sharing a cup of tea and good conversation, she cherished every moment spent with loved ones. Her friendly demeanor and welcoming personality made everyone feel comfortable in her presence.
Among Elizabeth’s many interests, gardening held a special place in her heart. She nurtured beautiful flowers that added color and vibrancy to her surroundings. Tending to her garden brought her immense joy as she witnessed the growth and beauty of nature firsthand.
Another passion of Elizabeth’s was dogs, particularly her Chihuahuas. These furry companions were not just pets but cherished members of the family. She showered them with love and care, ensuring they lived happy lives filled with wagging tails and playful moments. Elizabeth’s bond with these loyal companions was truly heartwarming.
It is with heartfelt sadness that we say goodbye to Elizabeth, but we take solace in knowing that her legacy continues through the memories she created. May she rest in eternal peace knowing that she made a difference in the lives of those around her.
A private graveside service will be held in the spring at Lakeview Cemetery, Gravenhurst, ON.
