Jean Horton Obituary
It is with great sadness that we share the passing of Jean Rose Horton, surrounded by her family, at Georgetown Hospital on May 25, 2024, in her 83rd year.
Our mom, momma, wife, grams, auntie, friend and teacher – fiercely independent, strong willed, boisterous, loving, and good to the core…was our Mom!
Our mom, loved us all so much…
She dedicated her world to her husband, children and grandchildren. She was also a beloved teacher at George Kennedy and Centennial public schools for many years. She loved her friends and colleagues and students. She taught multiple generations of children in Georgetown. She was an amazing artist in her own right. She loved tennis, and most of all, golf. She also loved her swimming friends. Mom and dad spent many years golfing and vacationing in South Carolina, where they had another whole slew of new friends. I know we will all miss her.
Together, mom and dad gave us all a strong feeling of a solid foundation and security, and we were never afraid because we knew that they were always there for us! Now we have to pass on this solid foundation to our children.
Mom and dad were married on a beautiful fall day, Sept 1st, 1962. Mom is predeceased by our father Rodney Horton (May 1st, 2016). She is survived by her children Donna Cole (Mike), Robert Horton (Carolyn) and her grandchildren Robert Cole, Kelsi Cole (Christian) and Peyton Horton. She is also survived by her siblings Sandy MacTavish (the late Diane), Sonny MacTavish (the late Anne), Ian MacTavish (Christiane) and Elizabeth Armstrong (Doug). She will also be sadly missed by Audrey, Abby, Liz, Ian, Lizzy, Tracey and Susan. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews in the Horton and MacTavish families.
We will be having a family celebration of life in Kanata. We will also have a visitation and celebration of life on Saturday, June 15th from 3-5pm at Jones Funeral Home, 11582 Trafalgar Road, Georgetown, where her children and grandchildren will want to hear your stories! We will also share some special memories of our mom!
