Peter Keyes
Peter Blake Keyes (67), passed away on March 29, 2024, surrounded by his adoring family in the comfort of his home. Born on October 19, 1956, to Jack and Marjory Keyes in Gananoque, Peter’s journey was one marked by remarkable passion and dedication.
A talented athlete from a young age, Peter found his joy and fulfilment on the baseball diamond and hockey rink, where his talents shone brightly. Peter proudly enjoyed his years spent working with the boys at “the Shop” (Stelco), yet his heart truly belonged to the St. Lawrence River, where he discovered his true calling as a boat captain for the Gan Boat Line.
Peter’s legacy extends beyond his professional endeavours; it resides in the hearts of his beloved wife, Laurie, and their three children, Blake, Kurt, Katie as well as his daughter in-laws Julie and Holly. His spirit lives on in the laughter and love of his grandchildren, Lexi, Lincoln, Quinn, Rose, and Otis.
His dedication to community and family was unmatched, as he generously shared his time and knowledge with the youth of Gananoque, coaching and mentoring both boys and girls, instilling in them the values of sportsmanship, perseverance, and teamwork.A seeker of wisdom until his final days, Peter’s thirst for knowledge remained unquenchable, inspiring all who knew him to embrace the pursuit of lifelong learning.
We bid farewell to a cherished husband, father, grandfather, and friend. Let us remember Peter for the warmth of his smile, the strength of his character, and the boundless love he shared with all who had the privilege of knowing him.
A celebration of Peter’s life will take place at the Gananoque Curling Club on April 27th at 3pm, offering an opportunity for those touched by his presence to come together and honour his memory.
