Dunlop, Frank
June 1, 1933 – August 6, 2024
Francie passed away peacefully at home at the age of 91 on Tuesday, August 6, 2024 after a lengthy illness. He was surrounded by all his girls: Betty, his loving and devoted wife of 65 years, daughters Irene and Janice, and granddaughter Cristalle Miller. As well as broken-hearted girls, he leaves behind our son, Frank Dunlop Jr. (Mei), son-in-law Gary George, grandsons Bobby Cranfield, Calvin and Jarrod Dunlop, grandson-in-law Ryan Miller and our great grandchildren, Kylie and Bradley Miller. He was predeceased by his great granddaughters Rylie and Avery Miller. Survived by his dear sister Agnes Collins and family in Scotland. Predeceased by his parents Agnes (nee Bradley) and Thomas Dunlop, his sisters Rose McKee (Jim), Liz Dunlop, Margaret McCormick (John), Jeannie Rice (Davey), Mary Dunlop, brother Thomas Dunlop and brother-in-law Pat Collins. Also mourned by cousins and many nieces and nephews in Scotland.
Francie pursued his hobby of photography from the age of 10 – from black and white negatives to colour slides to colour photos to digital +3D, processing everything himself. As a teenager, he won medals racing bikes in many marathons in Scotland, fought in Korea for 3 years, sailed on many ships as a marine engineer, including the “Queen Mary” before coming to Canada. After he came to Canada, he worked on the construction of the Skyway 1958/1959 and then worked and retired from Dofasco. His hobbies, as well as photography included sky-diving, parachuting, helping to build The Spirit of Canada, Canada’s first hot air balloon in 1967, by designing and building the burners and framework and also Labatt’s Blue hot air balloons. After that came scuba diving, involving the whole family. On vacations, he climbed every significant mountain in Scotland. Francie also was an amazing carpenter and handy man. Nothing was beyond him. As a family, we have had the privilege of being the main part of his life and we are able to call him Husband, Dad, Granda and Great Granda.
Thank you, Francie
My love always
