CAMPBELL, John Angus, 74,
Passed on to his heavenly reward on Thursday, Oct. 12, surrounded by devoted and grieved family members at the Met campus of the Windsor Regional Hospital.
He leaves behind to mourn his loving wife, Eileen (Mitchell) and three children, Suzanne (Marc), Karen and Iain (Meredith).
John dedicated 35 years of his working life to the Chrysler assembly plant in Windsor, Ont., retiring in 2005.
His most meaningful and rewarding work, however, was reserved for family. Teaming up with Eileen, his wife of 51 years, John deployed his own special blend of steadfast love, support, patience and understanding to help guide his children into productive adulthood and to usher cherished grandchildren Sarah MacEachern (Akshay), Mitchell MacEachern, Kate MacMillan and Hannah MacMillan through their formative years.
Survived by brothers Finlay, A.J., both of Mabou, N.S.; Raymond, Es, Ont.; Francis (Mary), Enfield, N.S.; sisters Marion (Neil) Beaton, Mabou; Donelda (Gene) Stanley, Cole Harbour, N.S. and Joan (Mike) Rankin, Cottam, Ont.; sister-in-law Annette (Tommy) Cassidy; uncle Francis Beaton; aunt Tena (Beaton) Wallace, nephews and nieces; cousins, friends and former co-workers.
Predeceased by parents Angus Joe and Catherine (Beaton) Campbell; sisters Florence MacDonald and Geraldine MacMillan; son-in-law Jaye Durocher; brothers-in-law Fred Richards and Allan MacMillan; sisters-in-law Sandra Morris and Juanita Campbell; father-in-law Peter Mitchell; mother-in-law Sadie Starling; several uncles, aunts and cousins.
John had been an active member of Local 444 of the Canadian Auto Workers union, a lifetime honorary member of Council 2844 of the Knights of Columbus, a volunteer with the Windsor Goodfellows and a longtime general and executive member of both the Scottish Club of Windsor and the Cape Breton Club of Windsor.
He was born in rural Cape Breton on July 8, 1949, and carried a unique and often-times offbeat sense of humour with him on his permanent relocation to Windsor 20 years later.
An ever optimistic fan of the Toronto Maple Leafs and an avid supporter of the Wildwood jam session in McGregor, he enjoyed a recreational game of golf and Euchre.
The professional, caring and helpful attention of staff of the fifth and seventh floors at the Met hospital campus will be forever appreciated.
Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to the Kennedy Funeral Home Ltd. (519-776-7378) 128 Talbot St. North in Es, from where the visitation will be held Sunday from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. and 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. A mass of Christian burial officiated by Rev. David Johnston and Rev. Larry Brunet will be held at Holy Name of Jesus Catholic Church, 146 Talbot St. South, Es on Monday at 11 a.m. Visitation begins at the church at 10 a.m. Cremation to follow and burial to take place at a later date.
Donations can be made to the Alzheimer’s Society of Windsor & Es County or Transition to Betterness. Online condolences can be made at www.kennedyfh.com
