Passed away peacefully at Erie Shores Hospice on October 3, 2024, at the age of 79. Predeceased by his parents Manley and Faye. Husband of Carolyn with whom he celebrated 58 years of marriage. Loving father of Cindy Marchand (Steve) and Doug Barnett (Shannon). Treasured grandpa of Clara and Scarlett. Brother of Mark Barnett (Marceline) and his late infant sister Kathryn. Stepbrother of Glen and Daryl Brown. Uncle and great uncle of several nephews and nieces. He will be sadly missed by his best buddy, Kevin “Bubba” Edwards.
Jim was a former owner of Brown-Barnett Insurance Brokers Ltd./DPM Insurance Group in Es for years. When he was younger, he played with the Kingsville-Es Associated Band. Jim became Band Master and led the Band to many championships in both Canada and the United States. He was a teacher for the Es County School Board and started the vocal and instrumental music program in the County. Jim really enjoyed singing Bass with the “Guys Who Like To Sing.” He also played in a Brass Quintet that entertained residents at several nursing homes.
In 2022, the Es 73’s Hockey Club recognized him for his longtime support and contributions to the team by honouring him as a lifetime member. He played a big part in raising funds for both the team and the new arena in Es. Jim also played hockey, was a coach, a referee and was involved in hockey schools. He was a Boston Bruins fan, through and through and an avid golfer. He was also a former member of the Es Kinsmen, Es Lions, Es Legion and the Masonic Lodge.
Friends are invited to join the family for a visitation at the Kennedy Funeral Home Ltd. (519-776-7378) 128 Talbot St. North Es on Wednesday from 2-7 p.m. A private family service will take place.
