ANDERSON, Norma
1925 – 2023
Norma Grace Anderson (née Peters), 98, of Englehart, died peacefully Thursday November 16th 2023 at the Kirkland Lake Hospital. Norma was born July 29th, 1925 in Englehart, one of 12 children of the late Alexander and Nina Peters. She married John (Jack) Howie in 1945, and together they had 4 children; Alexis, Doug, Brent, and Gordon. Jack passed away in 1979 and Norma later remarried to Wilfred (Buck) Anderson.
Buck and Norma had many happy years, until his passing on July 18, 2015. Norma was also preceded in death by 9 of her siblings and her youngest son Gordon (1985).
Norma is survived by two of her brothers; Calvin and Murray Peters, as well as three of her children; Alexis, Doug (Heather), and Brent (Maureen). Norma has 13 grandchildren; Todd (Tarian), Tina, Kim (Chris), Erin (Derrick), Mathew (Trista), Katie (Jeff), Blake, Scott (Joedy), Rainelle (Hassan), Jon (Kaylee), Tom (Jenna), Shawn, and Steve. Norma is also survived by 20 great grandchildren.
Norma was a nurse’s aide in WWII, serving in the Women’s Air Corps. After the war she worked as nurse’s aide and later a hairdresser. Norma had many hobbies, she and Buck stayed very busy. They loved camping, and all the grandchildren were excited for their turn to join on a camping trip. A visit to their home in Brampton always showcased their hobbies. The apartment smelled of fresh leather being used to make belts and wallets. The walls were adorned with homemade Tokyo Bunka embroidery, and the tables were covered in crochet doilies. But most obvious was the sound of music playing, the Grand Ole Opry on the television or grandma playing her organ. She loved music and dancing, she spent many years as a square dance and line dance teacher. These passions only grew as she aged. When she was in her 80’s she decided to learn how to play both the violin and the guitar. She loved to attend the Legion to attend country jam sessions.
Norma spent her last years living in Englehart surrounded by two brothers, her three remaining children, several grandchildren, and some of her youngest great grandchildren. All of whom made sure her last years were amazing. She was very loved, and will be greatly missed.
There will be no service at this time. The family will be planning a celebration of life to take place in the spring time.
