Charles Penny passed away peacefully at home in Augsburg, September 24, 2023 at the age of 84. He is survived by his wife and childhood sweetheart of 62 years, Joan Penny; three daughters, Linda Boutet, Karen Blake, Sandra Walsh; two son-in-laws, Gilles Boutet, Joe Walsh; three granddaughters, Rachel Boutet, Michelle Boutet, Nyah Davidson; one grandson, Jevyn Davidson; one great granddaughter, Rose Makinson; one great grandson, Dale Makinson; and four sisters, Eileen MacNeil, Ada MacIntosh, Debra Verwey, Christina Torontow. Predeceased by parents Gordon Penny, Mary Penny (nee Frost) and one sister Constance Wolschlag.
Charles joined the military and graduated in 1961 with an electrical engineering degree. He completed 34 years of service which included flying and maintenance of light aircraft and helicopters. He retired in 1990 where he added to his ‘Jack of all Trades’ personality. Over the years he electrically wired two newly built homes; he purchased a century old player piano and refurbished it including every bellow for each key; he designed and installed a functioning dumbwaiter; he not only did basic car maintenance but would purchase cars that had been in accidents, weld scrap sections together to make one new functioning vehicle and then learned how to professionally paint them; he owned an apple orchard consisting of approximately 50 trees and learned how to care for them so that they produced good fruit; he did detailed woodworking; he built a canoe (that did not leak!); he joined the Eganville Curling Club when he moved to the area where he served on the board as treasurer and president and later in his life, using an advanced computer set-up, he flew simulated planes with people all around the world. He was truly an amazing man who would help anyone, try anything and never worried if there a few screws left over after he put something back together.
