On Monday Sept 23, 2024, John William Byers passed away at home due to complications from a fall and rib fracture 2 weeks prior. He is survived by his wife, of almost 48 years, Joan Ridsdill, his daughters Andrea Byers, and Laura Longo (Frank), and his two grandchildren Frankie and Grace. He is also survived by his brother Tom Byers (Karen), sister MaryAnne Brown (Dave), and his sister-in-law Carol Phillips (Pat deceased). His many nieces and nephews, as well as grandnieces/nephews, cousins Robert Byers, Martha Byers (Michael Curness), Janet Browne (John), and Kathy Koka (Jay) will also miss him terribly.
John was a teacher in the Hamilton-Wentworth district from 1973-2003. He was also OSSTF president in the local district for many years.
He will be deeply missed by his close friends Doug Lunau, Scott Colbran and Peggy Morrison, Pat and Sue Moulden, and Bill and Linda Belovari, as well as many others with whom he has kept in touch over the years. John was always a welcoming host, chef, friend and confidant.
