Losing someone so deeply loved is extremely difficult. With heavy hearts we share the passing of Doreen May Christie (née Sutton). Doreen is predeceased by her husband of 72 years, Jim (2020), her parents Oliver and May Sutton, and brother Ollie. Amazing and much-loved mother to Karen Speedie (George), and Nancy Zabel (Ron). “Grams” will be dearly missed by grandchildren David Speedie (Jen), Eric Speedie (Tamara), Lauren Bell (née Zabel) (Andrew), and Kevin Zabel. Great-grandchildren Solenn, Aven, Taylor, Alexander, Shaun, and Sarah will miss her scooter rides, as well as her big hugs and video calls.
Doreen enjoyed their various cottages over the years at Booth’s Harbour, Dunnville, and Parry Sound. She enjoyed many wonderful years of camping with family in Algonquin Park playing cards and Quoits. She embraced technology to better keep in touch with great-grandchildren in Australia, New Zealand, and Ontario. She enjoyed the casino, Bingo and was the ultimate sports fan never missing her grandchildren’s hockey games or soccer matches. She was a dedicated Maple Leaf and Blue Jays fan.
Doreen approached life with enthusiasm and a determination to make the most of every moment. She taught us the importance of finding joy in the little things and facing life’s challenges with humour and grace. She made every occasion special with her positive energy and her ability to make everyone feel welcome and loved, especially furry friends. Her kindness and generosity were boundless. Making and donating upwards of 300 hats was one of her many acts of caring.
