Dr. Gerald (Gerry) Boswell was born in Hamilton in 1931, the son of the late Charles and Irene Boswell, and brother to the late Joan Evans. He was the best friend, constant companion and loving husband to Sandy, his wife of over 60 years. Father of Beth (Toronto), Duncan (Shoshana, Toronto) and Sarah (Ian) (Australia). He was a proud grandfather to Quinn and Devin Boswell, as well as Connor and Lexy Thorpe and step grandfather to Jacob and Josh Klein/Boswell.
Gerry was born and educated in Hamilton, graduating with a B.A. from McMaster University and then an M.D. from the University of Toronto. During this period, he was an oarsman for McMaster University as well as twice Canadian champion with Leander Boat Club.
After a short time in medical practice in Marathon, Ontario, he married and came to live in and practice medicine in Burlington, Ontario for 39 years. He was the first physician appointed to the City of Burlington to do annual exams on the police, fire and city personnel while pursuing a busy family practice. He was past chairman of the Department of Family Medicine at the Joseph Brant Hospital as well as past President of the Medical Staff. He was a past Director of the VON and a recipient of the St. Johns Medal from the Governor General of Canada for his years as the training officer for St. Johns Ambulance.
He and Sandy have travelled widely in Europe and Asia. In retirement, he was a member of the Roseland Club, a past President of Burlington Probus and a board member of Cheshire Independent Living Services, as well as involved with other charities such as The Salvation Army, Child Find Ontario and CNIB.
Gerry was an oarsman, skier, cyclist, golfer, bowler, hockey coach, bridge and poker player as well as a painter and published writer. He strongly believed that a day without laughter was no day at all and followed this premise faithfully all of his life.
