Mr. Nick Botzang of Simcoe, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family at the Norview Lodge, Simcoe on Tuesday, January 30, 2024 in his 94th year. Nick was born in Plunkett Saskatchewan, son of the Late Theresa Botzang (nee: Tell) (1964) and the Late Frank Botzang (1982). Nick was a devoted husband and family man and especially enjoyed watching his grandchildren Laura, René and Natalie grow up and later playing checkers and cards with his cherished great-grandchildren Julia and Michael. Nick married the love of his life Dorothy Paelinck on April 9th, 1951. They grew tobacco for 36 years on Dorothy’s parent’s farm located on Brandy Creek Road, La Salette, then had share growers for several years. During the fall and early winter months, Nick worked as a buyer for various tobacco companies at the Tobacco Auction Exchanges in Delhi, Aylmer, and Tillsonburg. Starting in 1987 Nick worked 18 years as a tobacco insurance adjuster for Ontario Crop Insurance in Norfolk County. Nick enjoyed woodworking (furniture, cabinets, and picture frames) and using his welder to make tools, jigs and fixing equipment. During his retirement years, Nick enjoyed working in his vegetable garden and took great pride along with Dorothy in creating a large English garden of various trees, beautiful flowers and ornaments. Nick was a proud member of the Delhi District German Home and enjoyed the many social events.Beloved husband of Dorothy Botzang (nee: Paelinck). Loving father of Gary Botzang (Bonnie Rees) and Linda Botzang (David Harsch). Cherished papa of Laura Krizmanic (Joe), René Botzang (Melissa Salcedo) and Natalie Botzang (Chris Doogan) and proud great-grandfather of Julia and Michael Krizmanic. Nick is survived by many dear nieces and nephews and sister-in-law Delores Botzang. Predeceased by his siblings Frank Botzang (1999) (Yvonne), Barbara Fennell-Crossen (2014), Theresa Ruppert-Slade (2018) and Mary Schira (2020) and by sister-in-law Yvonne Botzang (nee: Osterout) and brothers-in-law Leonard Fennell, George Crosson, Karl Ruppert, Bob Slade and Steve Schira. On Jan 7, 2019, Nick and Dorothy moved to Delrose Retirement home in Delhi and experienced the COVID restrictive years. In Dec 2022, Nick and Dorothy moved to Norview Lodge Long Term Care Home in Simcoe. Nick was well liked by all the nurses and PSWs as a kind person with an instant smile who enjoyed joking with them. A sincere thank you to the staff on Evergreen Lane who cared for Nick during his stay and especially during his final days. Friends may call at the MURPHY FUNERAL HOME, Delhi (519) 582-1290 (www.mfh.care) for visitation on Friday from 2:00 to 5:00 p.m. A Funeral Service will be held in the Chapel on Saturday, February 3, 2024 at 11:30 a.m. Interment in Delhi Cemetery. Donations to the Heart and Stroke Foundation, the Our Lady, Queen of Martyrs Memorial Fund or the LaSalette Area Rural Roots (Church) will be gratefully appreciated by the family.
