Karen Elizabeth Menzies (née Ryner) passed away peacefully on December 8th, 2024 in Cornwall, Ontario at the age of 64.
Born in Montreal on November 14th, 1960, Karen spent her early years in Quebec before settling in Ontario where she attended Tagwi High School and where she pursued a post-secondary education at St. Lawrence College.
Before dedicating her life to raising her family, Karen worked as a bank teller.
A playful and intelligent woman with a deep love of learning, she was known for her infectious laugh, her love of dancing in the kitchen, and her passion for audiobooks. A dedicated Baha’i and feminist, Karen found joy in philosophical discussions with friends and held a strong belief in justice and equality for all. Throughout her life, Karen held a special place in her heart for horses.
Karen is survived by her loving sons, Jeff Collins (Ali) and Brandon Menzies (Shantel), and her cherished granddaughter, Flora. She also leaves behind her brothers Don Ryner (Francis) and Rick Ryner (Brenda), along with nieces Shauna (Hayden) and Cassie, and nephew Chris. She was predeceased by her brother Eric, mother Norma, and father Ronald.
An informal gathering to celebrate Karen’s life will be held at Wilson Funeral Home, 822 Pitt St, Cornwall, on Saturday, December 21st, from 1-4pm, followed by dinner at The Family Corner restaurant across the street. All are welcome to attend; please bring stories to share.
A celebration of life will take place at Farran Park in Ingleside in the summer of 2025 to commemorate the annual Baha’i picnics Karen hosted there.
