William “Carl” Grummett
William Carl Grummett, affectionately known as Carl, was born to Willoughby and Zillah Grummett in the town of Thornbury on February 25, 1936, a place forever dear to his heart.
It is with profound sadness that we announce his peaceful passing on June 24, 2024, in his 89th year, leaving behind a legacy of love and cherished memories.
Carl is survived by his devoted wife of 54 years, Katherine (Griesbach). He was the fourth of five sons, and though predeceased by his parents and brothers Dan (Georgina) and Kenneth, his memory lives on in his brothers Leonard and Laverne (Jean), and his sister-in-law Cheryl. In addition to his immediate family, Carl will be dearly missed by his nieces, nephews, and friends whose lives he touched with his kindness and humor.
As a proud and loving father, Carl is dearly remembered by his sons Scott (Liz) and Trevor (Dawn). His role as a grandfather to Meghan (Rory), Grayson, Alexandria, and Lucy brought him immense joy, and they will forever carry his memory in their hearts.
Throughout his life, Carl found great happiness and adventure in his passion for cars. From his beloved Ford Fairlane convertible to his cherished Oldsmobile 442, Pontiac GTO, Cadillacs, and Buicks, each vehicle held a special place in his heart. Carl enjoyed sharing his passion with others, often spending hours at the local car dealership planning his next purchase.
Carl also had a deep love for travel, especially across Canada and Florida, with a special fondness for Nova Scotia. He cherished these journeys with his family, creating memories along the way. Carl loved to visit with others, whether it was at the local coffee shop with friends or sharing stories with family during gatherings.
The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to Dr. Mark Enright for his compassionate care and to Carl’s visiting nurse, Kim Collins, whose dedication provided comfort during his final year.
Carl’s life was defined by his unwavering love for his family, his strong work ethic, and his appreciation for life’s simple pleasures. His passing leaves a profound emptiness that will be deeply felt by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
In respect of Carl’s wishes, a private family service will be held to honor and celebrate his life, reflecting on the lasting impact he had on those fortunate enough to call him family and friend.
