Mary Jean Wensley passed away peacefully, surrounded by her family on Tuesday February 6, 2024 at Campbell House in Collingwood in her 83rd year.
Born in Port Credit, Ontario June 26, 1941, MJ was the oldest of seven children. Graduated as a Registered Nurse from St. Joseph’s Hospital in Toronto, Class of 1962. Many years later, her nursing career landed her in Collingwood where she practiced at Sunset Manor for 18 years. She loved caregiving done her way. MJ’s interest in caregiving was evident at the tender age of 13 where she was trained as a Candy Striper at St. Joseph’s. Those who worked with her will always tell the story of her “Red Shoes” She will be sadly missed by her husband Barry of 61 years, daughters Jeannie and Sarah and her son Tom. Forever cherished also by her 5 grandchildren as well as her many nieces and nephews.
At Mary Jean’s request, cremation has taken place. A Celebration of Life will be held and announced at a later date.
The family wish to extend a sincere thank you to all the Nurses, staff and volunteers at Campbell House for the extraordinary care given to MJ in her final days. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Hospice Georgian Triangle – Campbell House or the Salvation Army in Mary Jean’s memory.
