Gwendolyne Elizabeth Collard passed away after a long battle with three different types of cancer on Friday, December 1, 2023. Dear wife of John Mattachioni and mother of Lee (Kelly), Dana (Rick), and Kereth (Neal) and stepmother to Mark (Laura) and David (Carla). Beloved Nana to Elyse, Nic, Aiden, Ryan, Brianna, Brett, Kyle, Basilio and Lucio. Dear sister of Doug and Judy Murray. She will be sorely missed by her many relatives and friends.
Gwen had a lifelong love of sports; swimming, tennis, golf, skiing, hiking and cycling. This led to a high school teaching and coaching career initially in physical education and later in guidance where she excelled in helping students realize their potential. From a young age she loved cottage life, especially Red Bay. She enjoyed her winters in Santa Rosa Beach golfing, playing bridge and walking on the beach. She was an amazing Nana, who was so proud of all of her grandchildren and looked forward to her time together with them, especially at the cottage and in Florida. Gwen will be remembered for her love of life, family and friends.
Gwen supported many charities, so in lieu of flowers, donations may be made to either Collingwood General and Marine Hospital, or to a charity of your choice.
Family and friends will be received for visitation at Fawcett Funeral Home from 6-8 p.m. on Monday December 4, 2023. Funeral mass will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday December 5, 2023 at St. Mary’s Roman Catholic Church. All are welcome to a reception at Fawcett Funeral Home following the mass.
