Holancin, George passed away peacefully at home in Collingwood on Wednesday December 13, 2023, at the age of 84.
Born in Gatineau, QC on April 6, 1939, George was a son of the late John and Zuzana Holancin.
He was predeceased by his beloved wife, Lydia in 2017. George was the kind, patient, proud and loving father of Anna Holancin, grandfather of Anthony (Cassandra), Jonathan (Hailey) and David (Gail) and great grandfather of Isla, Arkin, Jiriyia and Minato. His family was his number one priority and spending time with them brought him much joy.
He is survived by his brother Jim (Myrna) and sisters Bette, Joan and Helen; predeceased by brothers John, Richard and Paul and sisters Mary, Anne and Pauline. He will be remembered fondly by many nieces and nephews and their families.
George comes from a proud and long history of farmers in the Holland Marsh, Ontario. His father John started their family farm that over time grew to be a 280-acre carrot and onion business.
George had the opportunity to move to New York City to work as a professional model. It was during his 5 years there that he met his future wife Lydia who was also working as a professional model. Following the birth of their daughter Anna, they moved back to Ontario.
George discovered his creative talents in the 1990’s. While dealing with discarded tools and farm equipment, he began to look at these objects in a different light and was able to see new life and beauty by creating amazing sculptures from the recycled materials. Many people have pieces of his work which will be treasured forever.
An accomplished model, businessman, gifted artist; George had many titles, but his greatest success was his family. He set an example of how to love, how to be patient and kind. His generosity was unmatched, he was a true gentleman who left an impact on all those who knew him. He will be missed but never forgotten.
Cremation has taken place and no formal services will be held. A celebration of life will be held at a later date.
