HICKEY, Brian Edward (20 February 1945 – 18 July 2024)
After a nine-year battle with cancer, Brian peacefully passed away last Thursday in the arms of his loved ones. Brian was a beloved husband to Wendy, his best friend and partner in crime for 57 years; a loving father to Chris (Beth) and Josh (Effie); a devoted grandfather to Isobel, Quillan, Rian and Finn; a dear brother to Paul (Colleen), Steve (Karen) and the late Linda (Ian); and a cherished uncle to Michael, Patrick, Andrew, Katie, Chris, Laura, Erin, Jennifer, Anne and Brandon.
From humble beginnings, Brian worked hard to create a life of adventure, duty and love. He successfully ran one of the world’s largest publishing companies for 20 years and was deeply involved in the Collingwood community. He was an active Rotarian, devoted member of the First Presbyterian Church, served on the Collingwood Hospital Foundation and was passionately involved in charitable work throughout his life. Brian loved painting, art history, playing guitar, skiing, golfing and learning to fly. Christmas was his favourite time of year; and his meticulously arranged decorations were legendary. He and Wendy traveled the world, and he proudly swam in the oceans of every continent. Brian was his family’s foundation. He will be dearly missed and forever loved.
“May the road rise up to meet you.
May the wind be ever at your back.
May the sun shine warmly upon your face;
And the rain fall softly on your fields
And, until we meet again, may God hold
You in the hollow of his hand.”
A come and go celebration of life will be held at Fawcett Funeral Home – Collingwood Chapel on Friday August 16, 2024 from 2-4 p.m.
