In Loving Memory of
Beverley Alvin Rutherford
June 12, 1940 – November 5, 2023
We are sad to inform you of the passing of Beverley Alvin Rutherford at age 83 who left this world on Sunday, November 5, 2023. He valiantly fought Parkinson’s for more than 20 years and passed away peacefully at Grey Gables Long Term Care Home in Markdale after residing there for more than 6 years.
Bev is survived by his wife of 58 years, Marilyn (Boyd) and their son, Brent, and his wife, Julie, and their children, Quinn, Sam, and Claire of Pickering and their daughter, Lynne, and her husband, Dan Dolan, and their son, Everett, of Oakville. He was very proud of his family and loved them very much.
Bev was the son of the late Leonard and Lena (Lougheed) Rutherford and was predeceased by his brother, Ray, 12 years ago. Ray is survived by his wife, Duane, and their children, Grant, and Tara Dilgert all of Waterloo. Bev’s in-laws include Donna Norton, Betty Muxlow, Allan and Betty Boyd, and Wayne Boyd, predeceased by Allan Norton, Cecil Muxlow, and Wilma Boyd. Bev is also survived by a large number of nephews and nieces, as well as great nieces and nephews.
Bev was a hard working, punctual, and quiet man who enjoyed a life of work and pleasure. He attended elementary school at Victoria Corners in Beaver Valley, high school in Thornbury, and earned his degree in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Toronto. Bev worked at General Motors of Canada in St. Catharines for 32 years, retiring at age 53. A move from St. Catharines to Lake Joseph in Muskoka/Parry Sound District was the realization of a dream come true. Bev decided that he still wanted to work after retirement and worked for about 10 years for a neighbour at Gordon Bay Marina. This was a highlight for him for many years. Bev and Marilyn chose to move closer to family in Collingwood and eventually Bev had to move to Grey Gables in Markdale.
We want to thank those who visited him there and for the wonderful staff who cared for him.
A Celebration of Life is planned for Friday, November 10, 2023, at Knox Presbyterian Church in Meaford with visitation at 11:00 am followed by the service at 12:00 noon. A reception will follow at the Marsh Street Community Centre in Clarksburg. The interment will follow at the Thornbury-Clarksburg Union Cemetery.
Donations may be made to Parkinson Canada or to a charity of your choice.
