Archie Thomson passed away peacefully at The Campbell House Hospice in Collingwood on Sunday, August 18, 2024 at the age of 83 years old.
Archie was deeply loved and will be dearly missed by his three children he was so proud of; Stuart (Pat), Tamara (Rick), and Heather (Mike), as well as his six grandchildren, Katelynne, Dawson, Taylor, Payton, Brittany, and Sabrina. He is now reunited with his beloved wife, Mary, who predeceased him.
Born in Singhampton area to the late Ali and Neil Thomson, Archie was the youngest of five siblings; Laura (Gordon), Kenneth, Wallace (Helen), and Bill (Jean), all of whom have predeceased him. Survived by many nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews.
When Archie was seven years old, his family moved to Nottawa, where he would go on to spend most of his life. He worked at Jardine’s store in Nottawa for 16 years before marrying the love of his life, Mary McLeod. Together, they built their home on the Batteaux Sideroad and started a successful butchering business, and farming acres of vegetable gardens, along with beef and poultry. This was a labor of love that they both poured their hearts into.
After losing Mary at the age of 56, Archie lived independently, always cherishing his memories with her and continuing to wear his wedding band as a symbol of his enduring love. Those who knew Archie will remember his quiet sense of humour, which he maintained until the very end. He was meticulous about his grooming, ensuring his teeth, shave, and hair were always in order, even in his last toughest days. Archie’s biggest joy was his family and farm, never leaving far from home and was able to enjoy for most of the summer which were his last wishes.
On behalf of Archie and his family would like to express their gratitude to the many nurses, Doctors and health care staff for their compassion and professionalism during the last four months at the Collingwood Hospital. Sincere thank you to The Campbell House hospice for making his last day so comfortable and peaceful for him and his family.
Respecting Archie’s wishes, there will be no funeral visitation and a private family graveside service will be held. However, the family invites you to leave tribute messages, which they would be grateful to read and cherish.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Archie’s memory may be made to the Hospice Georgian Triangle Foundation for Campbell House, a Hospice of your choice, the Canadian Cancer Society or planting a tree in memory of Archie Thomson.
