Allen, Anthony “Tony” George Edward Allen (24 November 1940 – 1 August 2024)
Tony Allen, beloved husband, father, father-in-law and grandfather, passed away peacefully, surrounded by love, on Thursday 1st August. Tony was a loving husband to Janet, his best friend and partner in life for 59 years; a cherished father to Heather (Ric) and Shelagh (Andrew), and a devoted grandfather to Oliver and Andrea.
Born in Toronto on 24 November 1940, Tony was the youngest of four siblings. Athletic and strong with a mischievous twinkle in his eye, he loved the outdoors and sports. Along the way he earned the nickname Bull and his high school years at Pickering College and then Lawrence Park Collegiate were spent on the football field. Football mixed with finance and fraternity at the University of Toronto, where he graduated in Commerce and Finance in 1964.
Wedding bells soon followed when Tony married the love of his life, Janet Stewart, five years after their first date at a Lawrence Park Collegiate football dance. Tony and Janet were a team. Together they raised their two daughters in Toronto and brought family and friends together around the dinner table for many celebrations.
After a career in real estate development, it was time to retire. Tony always said that the move to Collingwood was one the best choices that they had ever made. Here they found a community of friends and Tony enjoyed golfing, volunteering, and skiing like the wind. But his creative spark came to life in the kitchen. Jams, antipasto, breakfasts, dinners and many carrot cakes, with family and friends always at the heart.
Tony’s family grew. He welcomed Ric and Andrew into the family, and became a proud grandfather to Oliver and Andrea. Snowmen, train sets, beach days, campfire songs and sunsets – when family was around, Tony was always smiling with that same mischievous twinkle in his eye.
Many thanks to the staff and volunteers at Campbell House Hospice and Collingwood General & Marine Hospital for their kindness and compassion over the last two weeks.
In lieu of flowers, if you wish to honour Tony, contributions to Hospice Georgian Triangle Foundation or the Collingwood General & Marine Hospital Foundation would be most welcome.
Details of a Celebration of Life will be shared at a later date.
