George passed away unexpectedly at home in Cobourg at the age of 68. He had an inquisitive, intelligent mind and he maintained boundless curiosity about science, mathematics, and the environment. A graduate of the University of Waterloo in Mathematics and Computer Science and Mount St. Vincent University with a Bachelor of Education, George enjoyed sharing the knowledge he gained from his voracious reading of scientific journals. George also enjoyed music and took an active role in singing with his great friends at Trinity United Church. He was passionate about nature and loved his pets. He will be deeply missed by his daughters Alice McMurtry (Evan McMurtry) and Laura McClintock (Robert Ormston), and their mother, Marianne Marusic; his brother John, his sisters Margaret and Elizabeth, nephew Tom, and nieces Ujarak and Victoria. Ever the explorer, George had a profound appreciation for nature and gained solace from many camping and hiking trips across Canada. George marched to the beat of his own drum, and his absence will be felt by everyone who knew him. Funeral service will be held at 11 AM on Saturday, January 4th 2025 at Trinity United Church. A reception will follow. Donations may be made to Ontario Nature or the Northumberland Humane Society.
