Winnifred Alice (Ouellette) Gillier finished her earthly journey on Saturday February 17, 2024 at the Chatham-Kent Hospice.
Wife of the late Peter Anthony Gillier and mother of her children Beth Gillier Eagen (Mark), Ed Gillier (Paula Ferris) and Mike Gillier (Tami). Predeceased by infant daughter Mary Ann. Gramma’s house was the best for her 7 grandchildren- Erin Eagen-Duquette (Brian), Julia Eagen Earley (Chris), Elaine Eagen (Michael Lapp), Jason Gillier (Chantelle), Jonathan Gillier (Nicole), Peter Gillier, and Emilee Gillier-Fysh (Jeff). Winnifred found a special joy in her great-grandchildren – Adrienne, Reagan, Olivia, Morgan, Victoria, Elijah and Murphy.
Winnifred was born Christmas Day 1931 to the late Hilary and Alice (O’Rourke) Ouellette of Dover Centre. She is survived by sisters Mary Frances (late Larry) Kehoe, Elizabeth (late Jerome) Kohel, Julia and George Denys and brother Tony (Shirley) Ouellette.
Predeceased by Rosemary (Patrick) Zimmer, Jeanne (Jack) Harding, Amelia Ouellette and Pete’s family, Stan (Patsy) Gillier, Doug (Edith) Gillier, Sophie (Clarence) Zimmer, Rosalie Gillier and Mary Wilhelmine “Buddy” (Bob) Edwards.
Winnifred’s life’s work was making a home and farming with Pete and later with her family in Harwich Township. She was famous for her ‘farm’ meals 3 times a day at the kitchen table or in the field which weren’t complete without a dessert. She was always up for a game of cards.
Winnifred was a member of St. Joseph Harwich Catholic Women’s League and Kent Centre Women’s Institute.
Friends and relatives may visit at Hinnegan-Peseski Funeral Home, 156 William St. S. Chatham (519-352-5120) from 2-4 pm and 6-8 pm on Wednesday February 21, 2024.
Mass of the Resurrection will be celebrated in St. Joseph’s Church on Thursday February 22, 2024 at 10 am.
Burial will be in St. Anthony’s Cemetery.
Donations to Chatham-Kent Hospice Foundation or Community Living would be appreciated.
