Marjorie Catherine Simmons (nee Bateman), of Chatham, passed away Wednesday, March 27th, 2024 at Chatham Kent Health Alliance in her 96th year. Born in 1928 in Chatham, she was the daughter of Joseph and Phyllis Bateman . Wife of the late Rolland (Rolly) Simmons, Chatham. Marjorie is predeceased by brothers and sisters Robert and Georgina Bateman, Wally and Madeline Bateman, Edward and Janet Bateman, Phyllis and Donald Jones. Survived by several nieces and nephews Bill and Laurie Bateman, John and Sheila Bateman, Carla Jo and Dave McLaren, Jeff Jones, Lynn Timson, Pat and Ross McMillan, Jo-Anne and Brian Ahrens, and Susan and Paul Aquilina. Also predeceased by nieces and nephews Cindy Bateman, and Sam Timson and step daughter Julie Simmons. Marjorie will be also be missed by her stepchildren Rick and Nancy Ross, Marlene Simmons, and Paul Jennings.
Throughout her life, Marjorie’s passions were baseball, hunting, oil painting, and horse racing. Both Marjorie and her sister Phyllis were proud members of the Florence Chicks provincial champion baseball team and were both inducted into the Dresden Sports Hall of Fame in 2003.
Interment will be held Monday, April 15th/2024, 11am at the Maple Leaf Cemetery at 55 Maple Leaf Dr., Chatham ON, followed by a Celebration of Life from 12pm – 2pm at the Royal Canadian Legion 39 William St. N., Chatham ON.
