Lydia Janet Reaume went to be with her Lord and Saviour Saturday, November 9, 2024 at Victoria Hospital, with family by her side. Lydia was born in Ireland 76 years ago. Daughter of the late John and Rebecca Steel. Wife of the late Byron (2018). Beloved daughter, sister, mother, friend, and child of the King.
Lydia had a life she was always so grateful for. Having been born into a loving family in the town of Holywood Ireland, to then create a family of her own with Byron and their 5 freaking awesome kids. She lived in various places growing up, with New Zealand being her favorite.
After marrying Byron, they lived in Toronto for a couple of years, then moved to Windsor where their true earthly joy was found with the births of their 5 amazing, wonderful kids. After telling Byron she’d move anywhere but Chatham, Ontario, they moved to Chatham and stayed there the remainder of their days, living through the highs and lows and creating lots of memories along the way.
Lydia is survived by her children Janet and James Sellers; Matt and Wendy; Sarah; Philip and Dena; and Alison and John Shea. Her legacy lives on in her beloved grandchildren Morgan, Tabatha, Genevieve, Olivia, Everlee, Evan, Xavier and Ethan.
Lydia is survived by her brother Norman Steel and his wife Nancy, sister June Elley and her husband Kirk, in-laws Elaine and Andy Buckstein; and Margaret Reaume (wife of the late Dennis). Alongside all her nieces and nephews from both sides of the Family as well as extended family members from all over the world.
Though she mourned the loss of her sister Jocelyn Mcollister and brother Johnny Steel she was deeply thankful to have had them as siblings.
As we will celebrate Lydia’s Life, we remember her as she was: joyful, faithful, grateful, and unfailingly kind. She has returned to her Lord, and though we feel her absence deeply, we take comfort in knowing she is at peace.
A celebration of Lydia’s life will be performed by the Reverend Bob Beasley at Emmanuel Baptist Church. December 21st at 11:00 am.
In Lieu of Flowers, the family would suggest a donation to the Samaritan’s Purse – Shoe Box campaign.
