Moore, Bessie “Betty”
24 October, 1945 – 23 January, 2024
Betty was born in Grantown-on-Spey, Scotland, daughter of adventurous mother and war bride Jean Murray and Canadian soldier Fred Cable. She sailed to Canada on the Queen Mary and spent her early life in Clute, Ontario. In Oil Springs she raised her family with husband Tom Moore and was known to many as either their bus driver or their post master. She loved to spend time in her garden and was known to turn plain walls and driftwood into art with her painting skills. Betty loved to travel and went to many places in Canada, the US and Britain.
Betty is the mother of Tom Moore (Maria) of Grand Bend and Holly Morningstar (Darren) of Oil Springs, grandmother of Alexander Moore (Laura) of Stratford, Fraser Moore (Megan) of Forest, and Macy Morningstar of Oil Springs. She had three great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. Betty is the sister of Michael Cable (Sharleen) of Timmins and sister-in-law of Dennis Douma of Cochrane, Ontario. She was predeceased by her parents, brother Lucky Cable, sister Linda Douma and sister in law Joyce Cable.
A special thank you is extended to the dedicated staff of Bluewater Health Continuing Care in Petrolia and the Palliative Care Team.
Donations to CEE Hospital Foundation would be appreciated.
Respecting Betty’s wishes, there will be no funeral with a private interment in Oil Springs at a later date.
