Stanlee “Lee” Dunbar Obituary
With profound sadness, we announce the passing of Stanlee “Lee” Gerard Dunbar, 55, of Carleton Place, on November 27th, 2024, surrounded by his loving family.
Lee was a remarkable husband, father, son, brother, and friend whose generosity and optimism brightened every life he touched. He is survived by his devoted wife, Patti Dunbar, and his cherished sons, Andrew and Connor Dunbar. Lee will be forever remembered by his parents, Pat and Donna Dunbar, his brother Craig Dunbar, and sister Lori Dunbar, as well as by his parents-in-law, Art and Evelyn Stelzig. He was a beloved brother-in-law to Jim Stelzig and Marie-Josee Stelzig and a treasured godfather to Shawna-Lee Kehoe, Ashley Kehoe, and Brittany Boyer. Lee’s legacy of kindness lives on in his extended family of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, and countless friends. Among those who held a special place in his heart was his loving niece, Clara Dunbar, who brought immense joy, light, and youthfulness to his life. Lee will be joining his sister, Rhonda Dunbar, loving grandparents, Stan and Grace Kehoe, and Rooney and Dora Dunbar, along with many other beloved family members who have passed before him.
For over 15 years, Lee was a cornerstone of the Ottawa Festival Network, where his leadership and mentorship left an indelible mark. Beyond his professional achievements, he dedicated over two decades to coaching and mentoring young hockey players in the Ottawa Valley, inspiring resilience, teamwork, and optimism in all who knew him.
Lee’s life was a testament to community and connection. He had a passion for photography, capturing the beauty of life’s moments, and a love for Disney, where he found joy and magic. He was an avid traveler who embraced the adventure of exploring new places and experiences. Lee’s commitment to coaching extended beyond the rink, as he inspired and supported many in his community. Through his volunteerism, passion for the arts, and unwavering support for his loved ones, he demonstrated an extraordinary capacity to “fill emotional tanks” and lead with compassion. Even during his courageous battle with cancer, Lee’s resilience and warmth inspired everyone around him. As he often said, he wasn’t just living with cancer—he was battling it, and battle he did. Lee’s family extends their heartfelt gratitude to the community that surrounded him with support and love during his life.
Thank you to the Irving Greenberg Cancer Center for the exceptional care Lee received, with heartfelt gratitude to his oncologists, Dr. Beltran-Bless and Dr. Corkum. Special thanks to the Carleton Place Hospital for the compassionate support and care provided to Lee and his family during his final days.
In lieu of flowers, please consider honoring Lee’s memory by sharing your stories and reflections or making a charitable donation to the local Carleton Place Minor Hockey Association, the Canadian Cancer Society, or the Carleton Place Hospital Foundation—causes Lee championed with all his heart.
He will be deeply missed but forever remembered for his kindness, mentorship, and love for his family and friends.
A Celebration of Life will take place in the upstairs hall of the Carleton Place Arena, 75 Neelin Avenue, on Sunday, December 8, 2024 from 2 – 5 p.m.
