Passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving family at the Carleton Place Memorial Hospital on Tuesday November 5, 2024 at the age of 98.
Muriel was born May 30, 1926 in Lancaster, Ontario, the daughter of Alexander McLeod and Beatrice McBean. Muriel married William Tischart in October 1947 and together they built a life filled with love, laughter and family.
She was the cherished mother of Judy Jordan-Comeau (John), Jim (Jean), Faye Walke (Michael), Stephen, and Catherine Yee (Michael). Muriel was predeceased by her husband, William, and son, Stephen. Beloved Granny to Jamie Tischart (Corena), Sean Jordan (Josephine), Sheila Jordan (Denis), Chris Jordan (Christina), Elizabeth Jordan-Prince (Craig), Colin Walke (Natasha), Richard Walke (Magda), Stacey Tischart, Nathan Tischart (Patricia), Cailin Yee (Rob), Caleb Yee (Laura), and Alyssa Yee (Alec). Proud Great-granny to Zachary Tischart, Kaylah Tischart (Kenzie), Emma Tischart (Ethan), Cameron Jordan, Andrew Jordan, Kyleigh Jordan (Christian), Teagan Jordan-Lamothe, Ava Jordan, Ryan McFarlane, Madeleine Jordan, Eliza Walke, Kipp Walke, Sophie Walke, Audrey Walke, Findley Gordan, Isabelle Tischart, and Violet Tischart and great-great-granny to Zeke Tischart .Muriel is survived by her sister, Lillian Clayton and brother, John McLeod. Predeceased by her sisters, Margaret Welsh and Ethel McKay, and brothers, Donald, William, and Ranald McLeod. Muriel will be missed by her many nieces and nephews and by her dear friend and cousin, Rowena Stickler.
Her family would like to thank Dr. Fullerton and the doctors and nurses at the Carleton Place and District Memorial Hospital for their compassionate care.
Whether you knew her as Muriel, Jo, Aunt Jo, mom, or granny, she was a steadfast pillar of strength and comfort to all who were lucky enough to know her. Her unconditional love, words of wisdom, and unwavering support will be greatly missed by all who loved her.
There will be no public visitation by family request but a public funeral service will be held in the chapel of the Barker Funeral Home, 19 McArthur Avenue, Carleton Place on Thursday, November 14, 2024 at 1 p.m. Interment at St. Mary’s Cemetery, Carleton Place with a reception to follow at the funeral home.
Donations to the Carleton Place and District Memorial Hospital, the Lanark County Food Bank, St. Andrews Presbyterian Church (South Lancaster, Ontario) or St. Andrews Round Church (Dalhousie Mills, Ontario) would be appreciated by the family.
