Passed away peacefully on December 12, 2023 at Hilltop Manor in Cambridge. Predeceased by her husband Tom in 2020, they had been married for 61 years. Predeceased by son Alec (Nicole) in 2016. Survived by her sons John (Leslie), Leo and
grand kids Brock, Cole, Jack and Grace.
Sophia immigrated to Canada in 1958 from the small Macedonian town of Agios Panteleimon (Patele) and met her future husband soon after. She came from a large family that included 5 brothers and 3 sisters, several of whom also made their homes in Galt. She worked for many decades in Galt’s textile industry for Galtex, Celanese and Tiger Brand and was a member of St. Mary’s Macedonian Orthodox Church here in Cambridge.
She was a loving wife and mother and a doting grandmother. There was nothing she liked better than Sunday dinner with her family or taking the young grand kids to Pine Cone Park afterwards to look for special rocks and leaves. She was a kind woman whose kindness was always on display. She was a generous and giving woman who had a smile for everyone. Friends and family who visited her home were always met with pleasant conversation and a tray full of Macedonian sweets and baked goods.
She passed away after a long battle with dementia, and the family would like to thank the staff and caregivers at Hilltop Manor for the love and care they showed our mother.
A private family service will be held for Sophia at Lounsbury Funeral Home.
