Paul Thomas Hisey passed away on Tuesday morning, November 26th, 2024 at Fairview Mennonite Home. He will be remembered lovingly by his wife of 61 years, Mary (Harwood), his two sons Andrew (Chandy John), and Jonathan (Joyce Daly), granddaughters Rachel, and Rebecca (Josiah Deroos), and brothers David, (Mary Lou) and John (Ruth).
Paul was born February 13, 1939 in Toronto, to Rev. Bruce and Hilda Hisey, both now deceased. When his father served as pastor of Second Markham Baptist Church, Stouffville, Paul met 16-year-old Mary in 1959 and the two were married on April 20, 1962. Shortly thereafter, the couple moved to St. Catharines, where Paul taught middle school science and then industrial arts in Niagara Falls. His teaching career began in 1958 in Whitchurch-Stouffville and retirement came in 1993, during which time he also completed an undergraduate degree in sociology from McMaster University and a certificate in biblical studies from Liberty College. Post-retirement moves to Burlington, St. George, Brantford and finally Cambridge allowed him to serve in various capacities in his churches and communities.
Paul loved caring for his family and his home, and for his cars. He served with commitment and compassion his church families, neighbors, and others with whom life brought him into contact. Paul’s ministry in gospel music started with his brothers as a youth and culminated in an extended run with the Workman Quartet. An avid woodworking artist, he crafted many beautiful and functional items that now have pride of place in the homes of those he loved. He and Mary had many opportunities to travel both with family and on their own, especially during his retirement years.
A celebration of Paul’s life will take place Friday, December 6 at 2:00 pm at the Fairview Mennonite Home Auditorium, 2nd floor, 515 Langs Drive, Cambridge, ON. N3H 5E4. Parking is limited, so please park in the Preston Mennonite Church parking lot, behind the church, 791 Concession Rd, Cambridge ON. Street parking is also available. Entrance to the building will be through the pool entrance on the first floor. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to Fairview Mennonite Home. The family offers heartfelt thanks to the staff in the Blair memory care wing at Fairview.
