Weaver, Mary
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Mary Melissa Weaver, aged 87, on July 4, 2024, at Margaret’s Place Hospice in Dundas after a two year long battle with cancer.
Mary is survived by her husband of 64 years, Dave Weaver, her daughters, Laurie-Anne Loree (Lorne), Diana Horton (Ted), Marie Maceiras, Karen De Vries (Eric), her nephew Drew Baird (Julie) and her 8 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Roger and Melissa Laurie, sister Jean and grandson David.
Mary was born in North Dumfries and spent much of her childhood in Glen Morris. Following her marriage, she spent the rest of her life in Rockton. She started her adult years as a teacher but left the profession to raise her family. She valued her community where she developed many lifelong friendships. She was an active member of the Rockton United Church, participating in the United Church Women and the church choir. She was also a member of the Rockton Women’s Institute. Mary greatly valued her family and enjoyed many large family get togethers throughout the years, but especially during holidays and time spent at the cottage every summer.
Mary had many passions and frequently displayed these passions at the Rockton World’s Fair, taking home numerous prizes and awards for her antiques, knitting, crocheting and quilting. Her family was particularly taken by her knitted socks, a hobby which quickly turned into a tradition as she supplied her family with annual birthday socks.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to her VON nurse, Carly and all the staff at Margaret’s Place in Dundas for the exceptional care Mary received during her final weeks.
Family to receive visitors at Corbett Funeral Home, 95 Dundas Street North, Cambridge, Monday, July 8th from 7:00-9:00 PM for visitation. Service to be held Tuesday, July 9th at 11:00 a.m. at Corbett Funeral Home. Following the service interment will take place at Rockton Cemetery. Luncheon to follow at Rockton United Church.
Mary supported many charities over the years. In lieu of flowers, David has requested you make a donation to a charity of your choice.
