Donald Gagné
On Sunday, December 15, 2024, Donald “Don” Gagné passed into eternity to be with his Lord, surrounded by his loving family. Born on July 9, 1947, in Abitibi, Quebec, to the late Alidor and Claudia (Bilodeau) Gagné, Don was a man whose life was marked by faith, family, and perseverance.
Don moved to Ontario in 1960, where he eventually made his home in Cambridge. It was here that he met the love of his life, Annette, and they were married on June 3, 1967, beginning a devoted partnership that spanned over five decades.
Don was an avid sportsman, enjoying hockey, baseball, and horseshoes, and snowmobiling. He formed many cherished, lifelong friendships through these activities. Proud of his French heritage, Don was an active and beloved member of the French community, which was a source of joy and pride for him throughout his life.
His faith in Jesus Christ was a cornerstone of his life and a great source of comfort and strength over the years. Don’s deep kindness and generosity of spirit touched everyone he met—friends, family, and even strangers. He carried a unique determination and resolve; whatever challenges arose, Don faced them head-on, believing every problem had a solution.
With a mind that blended logic and creativity, Don was a gifted carpenter who created beautiful and enduring works with his hands. Beyond his craft, he cultivated an incredible legacy of love and dedication to family. Whether hosting his famous summer barbecues to bring relatives together or showing up for those in need, Don exemplified a steadfast commitment to the people he loved.
Don was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather. He is survived by his wife, Annette; his daughters Carole (Bill), Donna (Jason), and Alyne (Jayden); and was “Papa” to his cherished grandchildren Michael, Sarah, Jocelyn, Holly, and Jacob. He was also the proud great-grandfather of Slaeden, Gaebriel, Liam, Leo, and Michael Jr.
Don leaves behind a large extended family of siblings, nieces, and nephews, as well as many dear friends. Don is survived by brothers Roger and Danny and sisters Nicole, Sylvie and Joanne.
He is predeceased by his parents, Alidor and Claudia, and his siblings Michael, Gaetan, Marcelle, and Josette.
A service to celebrate Don’s life will take place on January 4, 2025, at Corbett Funeral Home from 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m., led by Pastor Scott Roe, with Visitation being held an hour prior from 10:00 a.m. to 11 a.m. A reception will follow at the French Club (647 Franklin Blvd, Cambridge), where all friends and family are welcome to gather, share memories, and honor Don’s remarkable life.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the Canadian Cancer Society.
He will be deeply missed but forever remembered with love.
