Surrounded by his loving and loud family, William ‘Bill’ Milner Stafford passed peacefully into eternal rest on Tuesday April 9, 2024 at West Haldimand General Hospital in his 100th year.
Bill was born on January 22, 1925 in Birmingham England. He was the son of the late William and Dorcas Stafford (nee. Millman), brother to the late John Woodman Stafford (1936). Bill was a veteran of the Second World War his station was of a Chief Petty Officer (Head of the Lower Deck) he joined His Majesty’s Navy in 1943 and after basic training in 1944 came to Canada under the British Commonwealth Air Training Plan. He flew Cornels and Harvards, he left the service after the war in 1946 and immigrated to Canada in 1947. He continued his interest in aviation in all its many forms from watching planes to being on them for leisure or travel. Bill had many interests that covered many areas, he was a great believer in education and enjoyed correspondence with his relations and to his acquaintances’. He had a knack for tinkering with his European vehicles as he had a love for MGB’s and the occasional Jaguar. He was a solitary man in his woodworking and had a fascination for English antiques, which included far to many clocks. The most important interest to him was his family, a bit of Tea, and a little something sweet (chocolate). After working in the field as an Architectural technologist, he joined Mohawk College as an instructor from 1968 to 1990. In retirement he remained a life member of The Association of Architectural Technologists of Ontario (AATO).
Bill is predeceased by his first wife Verna Jean Stafford (nee. McGregor)(1975), and his second wife Shirley Anne Stafford (nee. Roser)(2023). Bill was a loving father to the late John Stafford (Sharlene), Heather Fountaine (James), Will (Greg) Stafford (Genevieve) and step daughter’s Joanne Halkyard, and the late Janice Savoia. Proud (Papa) Grandfather to Amanda (Scott), James (Erin), Joseph (Deana), Donna (Jodie), Krystal (Daryl), Brandie (Cameron), Kaelum, Athena. Great Grandfather to Taylene (Calvin), Jacob, Jared, Aurora, Saige, Kira, Tyler, John, Shane, Michael, Sarah, Charlie, John, and James. Great Great Grandfather (GGPa) to Jonathan, Danika, Gavin. Great Great Great Grandfather to Fisher. Grandfather to step daughter’s Joanne and Janice’s children, Amanda, Adam, Andrew, Rebecca (Brent), Kyle (Natasha), Jared, and Christina. Great Great Grandfather to Alex and Branden.
Family and friends are welcome to pay greetings and respects at MILLER FUNERAL CHAPEL in Caledonia on Saturday April 20, 2024 from 12 noon until 1pm time of service in the chapel, with interment of cremated remains for both Bill and Shirley the Caledonia Cemetery to follow. A special thank you to the staff at RVilla Caledonia Retirement Living for the last several years for both Bill and Shirley Stafford. Also a very special thank you for the West Haldimand General Hospital and Norfolk General Hospital for the care and compassion Bill received in his final days. In memory of Bill donations to the Alzheimer’s Society or West Haldimand General Hospital would be greatly appreciated by the family.
