We are deeply saddened to announce the passing of Salvatrice Scime (nee Scaglione) on Friday November 22 in her 88th year in Hamilton surrounded by her children after a short battle with cancer. She was predeceased by her beloved husband Filippo, son Joseph (Sandra) and parents Giuseppe and Lucia (Sciascia). She is survived by her loving children Lena, Antonio and Sam (Luisa). She will be deeply missed by her adoring grandchildren Phillip, Daniel, Samuel, Adriana and Anthony, her brothers in Canada Carmelo Scaglione (Sarafina) and the late Salvatore Scaglione (Giuseppina) and her siblings in Racalmuto, Nicolo Scaglione (Giulia), Calogero Scaglione (Concetta), Angela Puma (Giuseppe) and Maria Salemi (Tommaso). She is also survived by her in-laws Calogera Mattina (Calogero) and the late Salvatore Scime (Matilde) and the late Marianna Giglia (Raffaele). She leaves behind many nephews and nieces, cousins and close friends in Canada and Italy.
Her infectious smile, selflessness and formidable courage are forever etched in the memories of her family and the many who love her.
Born in Racalmuto, Sicily, Italy on April 12, 1936, one of seven children. When not helping to care for her siblings, she attended convent school where she learned needlework and embroidery. She settled in Hamilton where she married and took on many different occupations to make ends meet. A fantastic homemaker, exceptional cook and dress maker, she doted on her grandchildren until the end. She is now at rest with her cherished husband Filippo and son Joseph. And on occasion she can visit Via San Francesco to be with her adored grandmother Angela Sciascia and aunts Pina and Concetta where together they will listen to folk tales and recite the rosary while spinning yarn, making cloth and dresses.
A visitation will be held on Sunday December 1, from 5-9 pm at Bay Gardens Funeral Home (947 Rymal Road East, Hamilton). A Funeral Mass will take place on Monday December 2 beginning at 10 am at Annunciation of Our Lord (280 Limeridge Rd W, Hamilton). Burial to follow at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery, Burlington. In lieu of flowers donations to the Canadian Cancer Society would be appreciated by the family. Online condolences may be made at www.baygardens.ca
