In Celebration of
Richard James “Dick” Cappon
June 14, 1933 –
March 18, 2024
After a life filled with love, achievement, and an unwavering commitment to his values, Richard “Dick” Cappon peacefully passed away on March 18, 2024 in Hamilton, Ontario surrounded by his loving family. Dick was the 3rd of 4 children, born on June 14, 1933 to Florence and Martin Cappon in Rochester, New York.
At the heart of Dick’s world was his family. A devoted husband to Catherine (Kate) his dear and loving wife and partner of 67 years. He was a father of seven children – Ellen of Burlington, Anne (David) of Hamilton, Maureen (Shahram) of Los Gatos, Calif), Paul (Sue) of Bath, ON, John of California, Cathy of Toronto and Marcia (Allan) of Dundas. His joy was further multiplied as a grandfather to twelve and great-grandfather to three. His unwavering faith and belief in the principle of “live and let live” exemplified his role as a pillar of support and love in their lives.
Dick was a lifelong learner. He did not formally retire his professional life. He was most recently the president of Cappon Associates, a personal and professional executive coaching practice. Previously and for decades Dick held significant roles as a partner and senior principal in two of Canada’s foremost accounting and consulting firms, starting early in his career and continuing throughout his life. His professional legacy is characterized by integrity, innovation, and mentorship, having guided countless individuals and businesses to success.
Beyond the boardroom, Dick was an author, known for his insightful book “Six Legs Jazz Club”. Through his writings, he offered wisdom on navigating life’s challenges with grace, encouraging readers to find strength in their values and talents.
A man of diverse passions, Dick was an avid runner. His adventures led him to marathon finishes in iconic cities across the globe, including London, Toronto, and Boston. This zeal for running mirrored his approach to life—embracing challenges with enthusiasm and perseverance.
Dick was a devout Catholic. His commitment to his faith was evident in his lifelong weekly church attendance and the way he lived his life, embodying compassion and understanding. Dick’s memory will forever inspire those who knew him to live fully, love deeply, and run the race of life with endurance and joy.
As we bid farewell to Dick, we remember a man of extraordinary character, whose legacy of wisdom, love, and resilience will endure. His life was a testament to the beauty of embracing every moment with open arms and a kind heart.
The family extends a heartfelt thank you to The Village of Tansley Woods, Burlington and Heritage Green Nursing Home, Stoney Creek for their care and support.
In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to a charity of your choice that reflects Dick’s spirit of generosity and love for others. A private Celebration of Life service will be held later this year.
