In Celebration of
Gerardo Di Feo
May 2, 1928 –
March 13, 2024
It is with heavy hearts and profound sadness we announce the passing of our dear Husband, Father, Nonno and Bisnonno, Gerardo DiFeo on March 13th, 2024, in his 96th year.
Gerardo is survived by his loving wife of 69 years Antonia (nee Pennetti) and their children Peter (Lee), Aldo (Enua), Gina (George) and Sam (Rose). He will be missed dearly by his eight grandchildren Ryan, Amanda (Nadeem), Maria (Justin), Christina (Brendan), Serena (Sandro), Leo, Carlo (Gabriella) and Ian; and his two great grandchildren Enzo and Remy.
Predeceased by his parents Salvatore and Genoveffa DiFeo and his in-laws Nicola and Gaetana Pennetti. Gerardo is now reunited with his brothers Pietro, Michele (Efigenia), Armando (Maria) and Damiano (Maria) and some of his dear brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law of the Pennetti family. Gerardo will be remembered and greatly missed by his brother Carmine (the late Martina) in Corsica and his family and friends in Canada, Italy, Germany, Switzerland, Portugal, and the United States.
Gerardo served in World War II and worked in France and Germany. His service and sacrifices he made for his family were truly admirable. He immigrated to Canada from Volturara, Irpina with his wife Antonia and two children Peter and Aldo in 1963, just 8 years after they married. After docking in Halifax, Nova Scotia and taking the train to Hamilton, Ontario; Gerardo and Antonia began their new life here in Canada. He was a dedicated construction worker and worked in a small factory in Burlington. His hard work and determination to build his family’s legacy will always be honoured and respected by us all.
Gerardo was a simple man who loved the outdoors. You could always find him in his backyard chasing off the squirrels, tending to his garden, climbing trees, and walking his daily 20,000 steps. His routine was impeccable. Sitting at the head of the table enjoying his plates of pasta paired with his homemade wine, followed by a nice cup of espresso was a staple throughout his life. He proudly identified with his Italian roots, making wine in his cantina and dancing “La Tarantella Montemaranese”. He often went back home to Italy to visit family and friends.
To know him was to love him. Gerardo had the purest heart. He was the proudest Father and Nonno who attended all his children and grandchildren’s important events throughout their lives. Gerardo was our biggest fan; his absence will be felt deeply as our family continues to celebrate future milestones.
Papa, Nonno, and Bis-Nonno, we will continue to walk in your footsteps and build upon the foundation you set for us. You have taught us that having enough is more important than having it all, and that living the simple life is the richest form of life there is. We will love and miss you for the rest of our lives. Fly high with the angels Papa. Ti vogliamo tanto bene. Riposa in pace.
Visitation will be held at Bay Gardens Funeral Home, 947 Rymal Road East, on Wednesday, March 20th from 2-4 & 7-9pm. A Funeral Mass will be offered at St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church on Thursday, March 21st at 10am. Entombment to take place at, Our Lady of Victory Mausoleum, Holy Sepulchre Cemetery.
