In Celebration of
Carmela Antonia Hrincu
December 20, 1928 –
January 7, 2024
With heavy hearts, the family of Carmela Hrincu (née Bonitatibus) announce her passing on January 7, 2024, peacefully and surrounded by family in her 96th year. Carmela, born in Pettorano sul Gizio in Italy, immigrated to Canada, then married the late Dumitru Hrincu. Beloved mother to Angela (Jay) and Danny (Cynthia). Cherished nonna to Sarah (Bradley), Samantha (Cameron), Karleigh (Steve), Blake (Holly), Kyle (Summer), and Brent. Bisnonna to Alannah, Noa, Jaelynn, and Addilynn. Dear sister and sister-in-law to the late Margherita and the late Concezio Crugnale, the late Pia and the late Felice Sciullo, the late Pietro Bonitatibus] and Agata, Irma and the late Antonio DiSimoni, the late Roberto Bonitatibus and Lorraine, and the late Viorel Hrincu. A treasured zia to all her nieces and nephews. She will be fondly remembered by many friends and neighbours.
She took pride in her contributions and achievements with her work at Joseph Brant Hospital in Burlington. As a longstanding member of the Catholic Women’s League, she dedicated her many artistic talents to support charitable causes. She was an avid traveller and reader, and especially well regarded as a gifted dressmaker (“sarta”) and exceptional cook. She expressed her love through cooking; a legacy now embodied in her grandchildren, who spent countless hours with her in the kitchen. We extend our gratitude to her compassionate healthcare providers at Joseph Brant Palliative Care, her supportive PSWs from Bayshore, Stay at Home, and Milestones, and the caring individuals at Burlington Gardens Retirement Community.
Visitation will be held Friday January 12 from 5-8:30pm at Bay Gardens Funeral Home, 1010 Botanical Dr. in Burlington. A funeral service will be held Saturday January 13 at 10am at Holy Rosary Church, 287 Plains Rd. East in Burlington. Entombment to follow at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery, Our Lady of Victory Mausoleum in Burlington. Luncheon to follow at Bay Gardens.
In lieu of flowers, donations to Holy Rosary Church or a charity of your choice would be appreciated by the family.
She will forever be remembered for her love and devotion to family, sincerity, courageous independence, and unyielding strength of character. Our quintessential role-model.
Rest in peace. Your absence will be deeply felt.
