It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our Dad, Grandpa, Opa, and friend, Peter Jansen of Burford, on September 12th, 2024 at the age of 90. He passed away peacefully, surrounded by his loving family at the Brantford General Hospital.
Peter immigrated to Canada with his family in his teenage years and established his life here. Only living a town away in Holland, Peter met his wife May (nee VanKruistum) here in Canada, and together they built their family and legacy to leave behind. He came from a family of 13 children; and she a family of 9. Together they leave behind their children, John & Angie Jansen, Wilma & Andy Parrington, Net & Don Ross, Ruth & Murray Williams, and Rudy & Tiffany Jansen. Predeceased by his wife May (2023) and son Peter (1980). Grandpa & Opa of Jeff (Lissa), Nikki, Justin (Jess), Carolyn (Mike), Ryan (Paul), Brad (Becs), Rod (Katie), Kait (Ryan), Mike, Adam, and Meghan. Great-Grandpa/Opa of Veronica, Jenna, Luke, Cedric, Phoebe, Callia, Violet, and Paisley. Dog Grandpa to many loved Grand-doggies.
Peter was a hard worker and spent many years traveling with his family to work in laborious jobs. Upon retirement, he spent his mornings driving and visiting family. He was known for not having a serious bone in his body, his crooked Jansen smile, carrying dog treats in his car, always having a story to tell, and for always being found watching a game show, the news, or sitting outside ready to talk to anyone and everyone. He loved to lend a hand, even if things didn’t always work out. After moving to Brierwood Gardens, he made many friends with the residents and made a lasting impact on his new friends, staff, and their families and pets that came through the front door to visit. He will be sadly missed by many.
A private service will be held at the Keith Ovington Funeral Home, 134 King Street, Burford. Interment Fairfield Cemetery. As expressions of sympathy, donations in Peter’s memory may be made to Make a Wish, Canada and the Canadian Cancer Society.
