Peacefully at the Woodstock Hospital on Saturday June 15, 2024. Marion (nee Wallace), of Woodstock formerly Cathcart, in her 97th year. Beloved Wife of the late Robert Sheridan (1970). Loving Mother of Dale (Karen), Douglas, Dawn (Jack) Grohn and Dana Sheridan. Cherished Grandma of 7 and great-grandmother of 11. Dear sister of Helen and Shirley and special friend of Peter, Joyce and Heather. Predeceased by her granddaughter Erin.
Family and friends are welcome to gather at the Keith Ovington Funeral Home, 134 King Street, Burford on Thursday from 6-8 p.m. Funeral Service will be held at St. Johns Anglican Church, 685860 Oxford Road 2, Woodstock on Friday June 21, 2024 at 11:00 a.m. Interment Princeton Cemetery. Marion Gertrude (Wallace) Sheridan was born in Leamington, Ontario, the eldest daughter of William & Madeline (De Laurier) Wallace. Predeceased by her sisters Catherine and Dorothy.
She was a graduate of Home Economics at Macdonald Institute, Guelph in 1949 being among the first post-war graduates after RCAF vacated the Macdonald Institute. Marion was a Companion of the University of Guelph, among the first woman to serve as a delegate to the Anglican Diocese of Huron, World Mission & Social Issues Group including a visit to Uganda during Idi Amin days to attend the consecration of Rev. Ben Agwal (graduate of Huron College) and elected bishop Northern Uganda (1975-76).
Marion held leadership roles in; the Women’s Institutes and 4H in Princeton, Ruscom and Cathcart, Burford Cathcart Harley Legion #543, founding member of Belleek Collectors International Society, past member of the Burford Township Historical Society and the Brant County Heritage and Tourism Committee. As well as church and community involvements was her membership in the Royal Air Forces Escaping Society (airmen who were shot down during WWII and escaped capture and/or hidden by local patriots). These airmen and their families were hosted and presented to Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth in 1969 as well as Queen Juliana & Prince Bernard (Netherlands), President Charles de Gaulle (France) and other heads of state on the 25th Anniversary of WWII.
A great joy to Marion was being able to take her grand and great grandchildren to visit Juno Beach in Normandy, France where there is a permanent display of their grandfather’s (Robert Sheridan) RCAF Uniform and his other artifacts on display at the Juno Beach Museum.
