~~~~~~~~~~~~
Mary Agnes Golledge passed away peacefully early Monday morning January 8th 2024 at the Brockville General Hospital. She was born to Claire and Sarah Brown (Ferguson) at Bethel, on January 15th 1936 and was the youngest of 10 siblings. She passed one week short of her 88th birthday.
She leaves behind David, her husband of 67 years, and their two children, Pam (Craig Wilson) and Dale (Lucie). She is survived by a sister, Sarah Hough, and sister in-laws, Patricia Large and Marie Portious.
She attended school at Rowes Corners and graduated from BCI high school where she won a typing award and a penmanship award. Years ago, she was often asked to type and prepare documents for family and friends, and her penmanship remained intact to the very end. Her handwriting was beautiful, just like her whole being.
Her life work and career began at Ontario Hydro. During those teenage years, she met her future husband who was working nearby, and on September 1st, 1956 they wed at Bethel and began a lifetime of happy memories. They soon started their family and instilled life lessons, that have continued for years. One of her great loves, was enjoying the St, Lawrence River where they lived and viewed passing ships, sailboat races, hydroplane races and pleasure boats, for the past 53 years. Her husband involved the family in water sports such as boating, swimming and fishing. We all have a natural love and appreciation for the river which we inherited from Mom and Dad.
She always enjoyed travel, whether it was to their Myrtle Beach favourite location to see friends, or the daily afternoon road trips that Dad would take her on, around the local countryside. She enjoyed sight seeing and really enjoyed interaction with everyone she met along lifes’ journey.
Her greatest love was family and in addition to her immediate family, she leaves behind her loving grandchildren Matthew (Kyla), Lindsay, Thomas (Sarah), Sheldon (Brittney), Charlotte, Mckenzie (Casandra), step grandchildren Fred Surprenant (Jessica), Sandrine Surprenant (Joe) and eight deeply cherished great grandchildren whom she doted on every chance she could. She also leaves behind many nieces and nephews that she kept in touch with often. She loved well and she was well loved by all. She will be missed and we will hear her kind voice guiding us with love forever.
The family would like to thank all the medical staff involved in her care – doctors, nurses, home care partners, hospital technicians, and paramedic services.
In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to Read’s Cemetery @ 3100 Bethel Rd. Brockville On. K6V5T2, or to the Wall Street United Church @ 5 Wall St. Brockville On. K6V4R8.
Family and friends are invited to join us in the chapel at Irvine Funeral Home, 4 James Street East, Brockville at 12 noon on Tuesday, January 16th, 2024, where Rev. Kim Heath will conduct her service, followed by a Celebration of her life and visitation, in the funeral home reception room at 1pm.
