It is with profound sorrow and sadness that we announce the passing of Kenneth “Ken” Harry Allen on Saturday, November 25th 2023 at the Ottawa Heart Institute after a brief illness.
He will be sorely missed by his wife of 61 years, Bette (nee Miller). Lovingly remembered by his daughters Leslie Robertson (Bobby) and Susan McKay. Ken will also be remembered as a cherished and devoted grandfather to Tygue McKay (Chalane) and Hailey Robertson (Cole). Loving great grandfather to Serenity, Luna and Jayce McKay. He is predeceased by his parents Harry and Vera Allen, his son- in-law Donny McKay and his very best friend, Bob Wilson.
Ken will be remembered as a well-respected realtor for 40 years, an avid sportsman and the biggest West Ham United football fan you will ever meet. Ken began his life in West Ham, England before following the love of his life to Brockville at 22 years old. Throughout his life in Canada, he devoted his time to his dear family and to his passion for sports including soccer, cricket and curling. He was a proud member of both the Cricket League and the Industrial Soccer League of Brockville. Ken was most recently honoured for the 42 years he spent convening the Sunday Social Curling League which was renamed earlier this year to the Ken Allen Sunday Social Curling League. Not only did he devote his life to playing sports, he also shared his passion for sports with his two grandchildren, never missing a soccer game of Tygue’s and travelling throughout the province to support Hailey in her curling endeavors.
Ken’s family would like to thank the Ottawa Heart Institute for their exceptional care during his short stay, a special thank you to his nurses Leah, Hany and Brooke for the compassion and respect they displayed to him and his family during this time.
Family and friends may pay their respects at Irvine Funeral Home and Chapel, 4 James Street East, Brockville on Wednesday, December 13th from 11:00- 1:00 pm with a funeral service to follow in chapel with Father Michael Read from the Saint Lawrence Anglican Church officiating.
